If wood is not dried beyond the fibre saturation point (typically around 25% moisture content), it produces more smoke and creosote, which results in less heat. As a result, instead of heating a home, the energy is wasted up the chimney. So it’s not only wasting wood and money, but it also produces a significant amount of unwanted smoke pollution.
Our firewood is seasoned for at least 20 years which brings the moisture content around 12% to 14% – as low as it gets (unless you live in the desert). And as members of the FAA we guarantee there will be no surprises if you decide to check moisture content yourself.

A variety of climatic conditions are present across the State of Victoria. These range from the sweltering summers of the Mallee to the blizzards of the snow-capped alps in the winter, and from the comparatively dry wheat belt to the soggy eastern elevated hills from whence so many of our perennial streams originate.
The average daily high temperature of Victoria, one of the coldest states in Australia, is only 22 degrees Celsius. The ideal month to travel is January due to the warmer weather. The chilly months from May through September are less appealing.
Temperatures drop quickly in the fall and then more gradually as winter approaches. The distribution during this month again displays the lowest values over the higher areas, but a noteworthy aspect is that, aside from this orographically induced area, there is virtually little variance across the State. July is the month with the lowest average maxima. Daytime highs near the coast typically reach the low teens in July; around the same value is noted over the wheat belt, while temperatures in the far north-west, where there are few clouds and rather abundant winter sunshine, are just one or two degrees higher.
You’ll probably start lighting a stove in the last days of May so make sure your firewood is properly seasoned, at least six months. So look to buy firewood as early as November for the following year. If there’s no time for proper seasoning make sure to buy dry firewood!
